Bal-A-Vis-X Exercises

Bal-A-Vis-X is a series of some 300 carefully modulated BALance, Auditory, VISion, eXercises of varied complexity, most of which are done with sand-filled bags and/or raquetballs, often while standing on a balance board.

The exercises are steadily rhythmic with a pronounced auditory foundation and require multiple midline crossings in three dimensions. Bal-A-Vis-X exercises enable the whole mind-body system to experience the symmetrical flow of a pendulum.

Bal-A-Vis-X exercises promote self-challenge and requires full-body coordination, focused attention and co-operation. Improvements with balance, hearing, vision and brain/body integration can be achieved. Physical coordination improves along with hand-eye co-ordination and consequently we see the child’s confidence and self-esteem improve.

For students who struggle to learn, Bal-A-Vis-X exercises can help them to function at their best rather than compensatorily. It is consistently found that cognitive integration improves, the ability to focus increases, behavioural disorders and impulsivity settle, stress headaches diminish and academic success requires less effort.

Bal-A-Vis-X exercises are also beneficial for those children who have difficulties with visual tracking, eye teaming and visual perception.

The rhythmic nature of Bal-A-Vis-X exercises creates a new awareness of the nuances of sound, benefiting those children who ‘hear’ but struggle to attend to the precise details of pronunciation and verbal instructions and who have difficulty following the flow of a discussion, often interrupting to make unrelated comments or asking superfluous questions.
